:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from GIRLFirefighter! -- Accurate. Couldn’t put the book down. : I’m a veteran firefighter of 24 years. This book made me both sad and hopeful at the same time. It accurately depicts the subtle (and sometimes outrageous) moments that I and other women continue to face and endure just to fulfill our calling and do the job that we love. It’s hard to describe the balancing act of trying to fit into the brotherhood “go along to get along” and finally realizing you must speak up and challenge the system-and knowing that this will end any reputation, or respect you may have. Tracy was able to tell the silent stories that often get swept under the rug-and they needed to be told. A good read. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2021 )

I met Tracey at the National Fire Academy many years ago and kept in touch via social media… when this book came out about female firefighters and what they go through, I took a minute before deciding to buy it. I’m so glad I did!!! I read it in four days! I have passed in the nook to a female fire chief in Miami Florida. She’s excited to read, and will pass of forward as well…. It’s a great book full of real scenarios! I speak from experience. 25 years in the fore service, first female Ff hired. Ouch… that’s all I have to say… Thanks Tracey for writing this book! This book touched on some of the difficulties women face in a male dominated profession, but showcased the resiliency I have seen in so many. It’s not just a book for women in the fire service, it’s for the men too. Relatable to anyone who faces adversity in any profession. Quick read and well written. : It is the reality that unfortunately some women in the fire service have faced and that some are still facing today. Examples of perseverance and strength to keep going and not let someone take what you have worked for, tested for and earned away. Thank you for sharing these experiences. We are nit alone. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kate D. -- Must Read if you care about the inside story on firefighting, esp. for women : Tracy Moore is a smart, strong and (probably sweet -- have not yet met her) woman who is both a fire-sister and, with publication of this, her first novel, writing colleague. So, yeah, I'm biased. But I've been around the emergency services for >40 years (including a too-short time in the fire service due to age) and have been writing professionally since 1979. This book has the sorta-shaky legs of a first novel, but, DANG!, she nails so many things well. She is adept at making characters who stick with you after the read. She is clear in her writing, and direct. The courageous writing Tracy has done has given the world a glimpse of the incredible add-on difficulties of being a female in the fire service along with a fair depiction of the Brotherhood, both upside and downside.
